
The World Milk Day-2026 was observed on Monday in different districts of the country including Gaibandha and Panchagarh and the globe with a call to inspire the female farmers to boost production of milk to build healthy nation.
This year's theme of the day was 'Celebrating Women Farmers'.
GAIBANDHA: Marking the Day, the District Livestock Department organised different programmes.
In the morning around 11 am, a post rally discussion meeting on the significance of the Day was held in the conference room of the District Livestock Officer (DLO) here with DLO Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak in the chair.
Deputy Director (DD) of District Artificial Insemination Centre Shahidul Islam addressed the function as the chief guest.
Gobindaganj Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Abdus Samad, Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Tarun Kumar Datta, Upazila Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Ruhul Kabir Riyad addressed the meeting among others.
DD of District Artificial Insemination Centre, in his speech, said there is no substitute for milk in building a healthy nation and beautiful Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
DlO Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak, in his concluding speech, said the department is implementing various activities by increasing awareness among common people about milk production, nutritional value, milk yield and economic importance of milk.
A number of district-level officials, owners of dairy farms, invited persons including journalists of print and electronic media attended the programmes.
PANCHAGARH: On the occasion of the Day, the District Livestock Department organised a colourful rally and discussion meeting. In the morning, the rally paraded the main roads of the town, and ended in front of the DC office.
Later, in the conference room of the DC, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad virtually connected said that women have contributed to the establishment of dairy farms and milk production. The government has taken various initiatives for women farmers.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mizanur Rahman, DD of District Fertility Department Dr Shahidul Islam, District Fisheries Officer AKM Abdul Halim, women entrepreneur Anwara Begum, and Shimu Aktar spoke at the meeting, among others.
DLO Dr Md Nurul Islam said, in his welcome speech, that the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations has been observing June 1 since 2001. Its main objective is to recognise the nutritional value of milk, the importance of the dairy industry, and the contribution of billions of people around the world.
More than eight crore women are directly involved in dairy farming worldwide. From rearing cows to milking and conservation, women's role in every step is immense. This contribution remains invisible most of the time. An attempt has been made to bring forward that contribution.
