Four minors drown in two districts

Four children have drowned in separate incidents in Bogura and Barishal districts.

BOGURA: Three children drowned in a pond in Bhalta cluster village of Murail Union in Kahaloo Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased were Md Zakirul, 6, son of Md Asadul Islam, Md Fahim, 8, son of Faruk Mondal, and his sister Suraiya, 5. 

The three children left their homes around noon and did not return home. At first, a woman named Salma Khatun saw Zakirul's body floating in the pond and screamed. Local people recovered the body and rushed to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared Zakirul dead.

At the same time, when grandmother Abeda Begum could not find Fahim and Suraiya, Mintu Pramanik of the village searched the pond and recovered Fahim’s body.

 Later, the fire service members recovered Suraiya’s body from the pond.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kahaloo Police Station Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter and said that arrangements were made to bury the three deceased children after completing the legal process.

BARISHAL: Two eight-year-old boys drowned in a pond in Kharki area of Ward No. 6 under Mehendiganj Municipality of the district on Sunday.

The deceased were Nayeem, son of Jahangir Sardar, and Israfil, son of Yusuf Talukdar. Both were residents of the same locality.

According to local people, the two children were playing near the Kharki pond when they accidentally fell into the water. When the boys did not return home for a long time, their family members and neighbours began searching for them. They were later found in the pond and pulled out. The children were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
