Malaysia-bound trafficking foiled, 50 rescued in Teknaf 

 
Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 50 people from a Malaysia-bound boat and arrested nine suspected human traffickers during a special operation in Teknaf on Thursday night.

According to the Coast Guard, they received confidential information that a large number of people were being taken to Malaysia by sea through the Teknaf coast as part of a human trafficking network.

Based on the information, a joint operation was conducted by Coast Guard Ship Mansur Ali, Coast Guard Station Teknaf, Shahpari Outpost and Baharchara Outpost from 6:00 pm to midnight on June 5.

During the operation, Coast Guard members spotted a suspicious boat in the sea area near Baharchara. When they signalled the boat to stop, it ignored the order and attempted to flee towards deeper waters.

The Coast Guard chased the vessel and later seized it in the sea area adjacent to Baharchara.

During a search of the boat, 50 people were rescued while they were allegedly being trafficked to Malaysia. Nine suspected members of the trafficking network were also arrested.
