The second session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad will begin on Sunday, June 7, with a primary focus on the national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.

The first national budget of the current BNP-led government is scheduled to be placed in Parliament on Thursday, June 11. The session is expected to continue through the budget discussion and conclude with its passage on June 30.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has convened the session exercising his constitutional authority under Article 72(1) of the Constitution, according to a notification issued by the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat on June 3.

The sitting will begin at 3pm at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

The parliamentary notification, signed by Director (Public Relations) Saiduzzaman Sayeed, stated that the session will primarily handle the presentation and passage of the national budget for FY 2026-27.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is expected to place the budget, which will be the first financial statement of the BNP-led administration that assumed office on February 17 following its victory in the February 12 general election.

The Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat said preparations have been completed to ensure the smooth conduct of the session, with arrangements made for live broadcasts through Sangsad Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other media outlets.

Ahead of the session, the BNP Parliamentary Party held a meeting on Saturday, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, senior party leaders, the chief whip and whips attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed restrictions banning processions, rallies and public gatherings, including the carrying of firearms, in several areas of the capital from Saturday as part of security measures for the budget session.
