The government is planning to establish franchise post offices or postal pickup points through private entrepreneurs in a bid to expand postal services across the country. The process of selecting suitable locations for these facilities is currently underway.
Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam disclosed the development in Parliament on Tuesday while responding to a question from Rangpur-3 MP Md. Mahbubur Rahman (Belal).
The minister said home delivery services for land documents, passports and driving licences are already being provided through the postal department. He also informed that 14 fulfilment centres have been set up in different parts of the country to support the growing e-commerce sector.
According to him, these centres are designed to handle key logistics functions, including product collection, storage, sorting, transportation and distribution, thereby strengthening the country’s online retail infrastructure.
He further said efforts are ongoing to expand real-time tracking services through the Domestic Mail Monitoring System (DMS), improve parcel delivery at affordable rates, and enhance international parcel services through the Express Mail Service (EMS).
The minister expressed hope that the implementation of these initiatives would make postal services more efficient, modern and accessible for the public across the country.
