SINGRA, NATORE, June 10:  A 75-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her middle son in Singra Upazila of Natore over a dispute regarding the construction of a toilet pit at their house boundary, police said on Wednesday.

The victim, Mariya Begum, also known as Sharifa, 75, reportedly supported her elder son in the dispute, which led to the killing.

Police said the accused, Janab Ali, 55, strangled his mother to death on May 25 at around 9 pm following an argument that began on May 23 in Agpara Sherkol Village under Sherkol Union.

After the murder, he allegedly concealed the body inside a toilet pit and covered it with a slab.

About 10 days later, on June 4, as the body began to decompose and emit a foul smell, Janab Ali, along with his son Al Amin,25, allegedly wrapped the body in a sack and dumped it into a nearby water body covered with water hyacinth.

Police said both father and son were involved in hiding the body and have been accused in the case.

The body was recovered on Tuesday after remaining missing for 15 days. Police later detained several family members and said details of the killing were revealed during interrogation.
