FENI, Aug 18: A destitute woman in Daganbhuiyan Upazila of Feni has received a new home with the assistance of the Feni District branch of Anjuman Mufidul Islam, a voluntary organisation.

The keys to the new house were handed over to Parveen Akter at a ceremony held in Chandpur Village of the upazila on Sunday afternoon.

Parveen lost her home and belongings in the devastating floods of 2024 and had been struggling to support her three daughters since the death of her husband.

“I lost my home completely in the devastating flood of 2024. My husband is no more, and I have spent the past two years struggling with my three daughters. We are very happy to have this new house. I am deeply grateful to Allah,” she said.

Additional District Commissioner (General) of Feni Md Al Amin Sarker attended the programme as the chief guest.

The event was chaired by Advocate Nurul Amin Khan, president of the Feni branch of Anjuman Mufidul Islam and a GP, and moderated by Asaduzzaman Dara, Coordinator of the house construction project.

Al Amin Sarker said Anjuman Mufidul Islam had been carrying out humanitarian activities for a long time.

“By building a new home for a helpless family, the organisation has set an excellent example of social and humanitarian work,” he said.

He assured that the Feni District administration would continue to support such humanitarian initiatives.

F M Faizur Rahman, Manager (operations) of Anjuman Mufidul Islam, and Omar Faruk Bhuiyan Belal, General Secretary of its Feni District branch and former panel mayor of Feni Municipality, also spoke at the programme.

Members of the organisation’s executive council, including Abul Kalam Azad, MS Hasan Jewel, Muhammad Abu Taher Bhuiyan and Advocate Mezbah Uddin Morshed, were present.

A special prayer was offered for the wellbeing of Parveen’s family after the house handover.

Nurul Amin Khan and Omar Faruk Belal said the organisation would expand such humanitarian and social activities in Feni in the future.

The house, built in Chandpur Village, cost around Tk 3 lakh, according to the organisers.
