GAURIPUR, M’SINGH, June 11: Mymensingh Zilla Parishad Administrator and BNP Central Committee Joint Secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince has said that journalists do not need to be engaged in politics, adding that society, politics and the state would all benefit if journalists properly carry out their professional duties.
“Journalists need political awareness, but I do not think there is any necessity for them to be fully involved in politics,” he said while speaking at a reception and discussion meeting organised by Gauripur Press Club on Wednesday.
He said journalists should work for the welfare of the people and highlight various irregularities, inequalities and unethical activities in society to draw attention to them.
“The past 15 years of fascist Awami League rule has undermined the standard of journalism. I hope you will maintain the standards of journalism,” he added.
The discussion meeting was presided over by Gauripur Press Club President Beg Faruk Ahmed and conducted by General Secretary Md Rakibul Islam.
Former convener of the press club Raios Uddin, former president Kazi Abdullah Al Amin and others also spoke at the event.
