Two found dead at Singra, Chilmari

Two people were found dead in separate incidents in Singra Upazila of Natore District and Chilmari Upazila of Kurigram District on Tuesday.

SINGRA, NATORE: Police recovered the body of an elderly woman from a pond near the Agpara Sherkol Bari in Sherkol Union of Singra Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon, 15 days after her missing. 

The deceased Maria Begum Sharifa, 75, was the wife of late Mozahar Ali of that village. Meanwhile, the police have detained her son Shahidul Islam and his son's wife Khadija Begum for questioning. 

The deceased’s grandson Shahin Alam said that after his grandmother went missing on May 25, a general diary was filed with the police station. Later, the body was found in a pond near the house.

Officer-in-Charge of Singra Police Station Rafiqul Islam said that the body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy.

CHILMARI, KURIGRAM: A girl child who went missing while bathing in the Brahmaputra River on Sunday afternoon was found dead in the riverbank in Raniganj Union of Chilmari Upazila of the district on Tuesday noon.

The deceased Isha Moni, 8, was the daughter of Rashedul Islam of Kanchkol Dakkhinkhamar area in the upazila and student of class two at Kanchkol Bazar Nabijan Nurani and Hafizia Madrasa.

Local sources said, while bathing along with her friends. Isha Moni was washed away and drowned in the river. On information, Chilmari Fire Service and a diving team from Rangpur conducted rescue operation but couldn’t trace her out. On Tuesday noon, locals recovered the body.

Local UP Member Md Rafiqul Islam confirmed the recovery of the body.
