NARAYANGANJ, June 15: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain has said the government is planning a major transformation in the health sector.
Under this plan, 20 hospitals will be built across the country. Among these, two specialised hospitals of 1,500 beds each will be constructed for women. The remaining 18 hospitals will have 1,000 beds each. These hospitals will offer kidney dialysis, breast and cervical cancer treatment, disability rehabilitation, maternal care, and general medical services.
He stated that each hospital will be provided with five modern ambulances, and four helicopters will be attached for transporting emergency patients.
Additionally, there is a plan to recruit one hundred thousand health workers to deliver healthcare to every home, of whom 80 thousand will be women. They will go door to door to provide health check-ups, screening, and primary healthcare services. The government’s goal is to deliver quality healthcare to people’s doorsteps.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony on Sunday afternoon to inaugurate intensive care units (ICUs) in ten districts of the country, aimed at improving healthcare quality and ensuring advanced treatment for critically ill patients. The event was virtually linked from Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital to nine other district headquarters hospitals.
These districts are Munshiganj, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Narayanganj, Tangail, Sunamganj, Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Jashore, and Sherpur hospitals. The ICUs in these hospitals have been supplied with paediatric ventilators and oxygen concentrators, and the necessary staff have been provided. These ICUs are now ready to deliver advanced critical care services for both child and adult patients at the district level.
Expressing anger towards the civil surgeons of Narayanganj District, Health Minister Sardar Sakawat Hossain Bakul said administrative action will be taken if necessary measures, including cleanliness, are not completed within the next three days.
The event, chaired by Md. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, Secretary of the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was also attended by Advocate Md. Abul Kalam, Member of Parliament for Narayanganj-5 constituency; Advocate Sakawat Hossain Khan, Administrator of Narayanganj City Corporation; Professor Mamun Mahmud, Administrator of Narayanganj District Council; Mashukul Islam Rajib, Chairman of Narayanganj Development Committee; Professor Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services; Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Divisional Director (Health) of Dhaka Division; Md.
