RAJBARI, June 16: A Climate Smart Agriculture and Technology Fair-2026 was organised by the Baliakandi Upazila Agriculture Office in the district.
The fair was inaugurated on Tuesday at 1:30 pm at the Baliakandi Upazila Auditorium, with Rajbari Deputy Commissioner (DC) Afroza Parveen attending as the chief guest. Special guests included Dr Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Deputy Director (DD)of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), along with Training Officer Md Golam Rasul, Baliakandi Upazila Agriculture Officer Ratan Kumar Ghosh, and Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rab Talukdar. The session was presided over by Baliakandi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Chowdhury Mustafizur Rahman.
In her speech, DC Afroza Parveen said: "To protect ourselves from nature's adverse effects, we must make proper use of rainwater. If needed, we can store it and use it for cooking and various household tasks. Instead of throwing away vegetable peels and fruit and flower scraps from the kitchen, we can collect them in a pit to produce organic fertiliser. This way, we can avoid using chemical fertilisers and enjoy the true taste of fruits and flowers."
She also encouraged tree planting and fruit cultivation.
DD Dr Mohammad Shahidul Islam said: "If the technologies displayed at the fair are applied in farmers' fields, it will be possible to offset the damage caused by current climate change. In addition, safe food production and farmers' health protection will be ensured."
Over 100 farmers from the upazila showcased their fruit, flower and produce items. Notably, successful farmer entrepreneur Hasan Tarek Sweet displayed 25 varieties of mangoes from his own garden.
The fair featured nine stalls, along with demonstrations of various agricultural tools and their easy usage. Numerous farmers from the upazila participated in the event.
