2 NCP leaders get show-cause notices over ‘misconduct’

Two leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) have received show-cause notices over alleged public comments related to sexual harassment allegations involving a female party party worker.

The notices were issued to Chattogram City Convener Mir Mohammad Shoaib and Member Secretary Arif Moinuddin. They were directed to submit written explanations within 24 hours to the head of the party’s central disciplinary committee.

According to the notices issued on Saturday from the party’s central convening committee office cell, a complaint was submitted on June 18 against NCP central joint member secretary and Chattogram divisional organising secretary Abu Sayeed Md Shuja Uddin.

A three-member investigation and disciplinary committee was formed the same day under the instructions of the party’s central leadership to probe the allegations, which are currently under internal review.

The notices stated that while the matter is under internal investigation, Shoaib issued a public statement through a press release on the letterhead of the Chattogram Metropolitan NCP. Arif Moinuddin was also accused of taking a position through a Facebook post and using derogatory language against the complainant.

The central leadership said such remarks violate party discipline as they were made while the inquiry is ongoing. Both leaders have been asked to explain why organisational action should not be taken against them.
