Yasin Khan Palash, an alleged “top terror” who came under attack just one month after being released from prison, has died while undergoing treatment.
Hatirjheel Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter and said that Palash died at around 1:00 am on Friday night at a private hospital in Dhaka.
According to various sources, Palash, 50, was previously listed by police as a top terror suspect and was widely known by the alias “Kaillya Palash.” He had been serving a life sentence in a murder case and was released on bail about a month ago.
Police and family members said Palash was shot on June 12 near his residence opposite the Bangladesh Television building in Rampura. Witnesses said assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire before fleeing the scene. He sustained two bullet wounds to the head. He was initially admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and was later shifted to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.
Following the incident, Palash’s wife Mahmuda Khanam filed a case over an attempted murder, naming Jisan Ahmed Monti as the prime accused along with several others. Law enforcement agencies have so far arrested two suspects, Imam Hossain and Maruf Sultan.
OC Asaduzzaman said the two arrested individuals were not named in the complaint but were allegedly involved in the incident. Preliminary findings suggest Imam Hossain was driving the motorcycle used in the attack, while Maruf Sultan had been moving suspiciously around the area.
