2 killed in road mishaps in two dists

Two people were killed and one was injured in separate road accidents in Habiganj and Bagerhat districts on Sunday.

HABIGANJ: A CNG-powered auto-rickshaw driver was killed in an accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Aushkandi Kibria Chattar area of Nabiganj Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

Protesting the death of their fellow Sohel Mia, 45, of Kurshi Village in Kurshi Union of the upazila, angry auto-rickshaw workers blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, stopping traffic for about an hour.

Local sources and police said that a speeding truck crushed Sohel Mia while he was crossing the highway, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, Nabiganj Police Station (PS) and Sherpur Highway PS talked to the workers and normalised the traffic after about an hour.

Police said that the truck was seized. Further legal action is under process in this incident.

FAKIRHAT, BAGERHAT: A pedestrian was killed and another was injured after being hit by a private car on the Khulna-Dhaka highway near the Palerhat Bazar in Fakirhat Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The deceased Md Tayeb Ali, 55, alias Tayeb Ghatak, was a resident of Pagla-Shyamnagar area in Fakirhat.

According to local sources, a Khulna-bound private car hit Tayeb Ghatak, leaving him dead on the spot. Meanwhile, the injured person was immediately taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital by his relatives. On information, the police recovered the body and took it to the Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex.

Mollahat Highway PS OC Md Asaduzzaman Hawlader said that the private car has been seized but the driver fled after the incident. Legal action is under process in this incident.

Fakirhat Model PS OC Sheikh Saiful Islam said that the real cause of the accident is being investigated.
