Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar on Monday said the party-led 11-party alliance would continue both parliamentary and street movements to ensure the implementation of the proposed July Charter, warning that delaying its implementation could push the country towards renewed political confrontation.

Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organized by the Feni district unit of the 11-party alliance at Grand Sultan Convention Centre in Feni, Parwar accused the government of drifting away from the spirit of the July uprising despite the sacrifices made by the people.

He also alleged that the BNP had failed to uphold the ideals of the July movement and was "betraying the people" by taking a contradictory position on the July Charter.

"The people sacrificed their lives and shed blood to remove the fascist government. But with time, the current government seems to be forgetting those sacrifices," Parwar said.

The seminar, titled "Spirit of the July Mass Uprising, Implementation of the Referendum Verdict, Trial of the July Massacre and Crimes Against Humanity, and Our Present Reality," focused on the implementation of the July Charter and the country's political situation.

Criticizing the home minister, Parwar remarked that he had become a "super minister" by commenting on every issue, questioning the role of other ministries and ministers.

He warned that if the implementation of the referendum verdict and the July Charter continues to be delayed, the country could once again face political unrest.

Parwar urged the government to initiate discussions in parliament, form a special constitutional reform committee and convene a special session of the constitutional reform council to resolve the issue politically.

"If the matter is not settled in parliament, and if necessary, we will unite the opposition parties or secure the support of 70 percent of the people through a referendum and take to the streets," he said.

The seminar's keynote speaker, Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, Secretary General of Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, called on the ruling party to return to what he described as the nationalist political ideals of late President Ziaur Rahman.

Fuad also stressed the need for effective measures to address recurring floods, landslides, heavy rainfall and road accidents, saying welfare initiatives alone would not solve the country's pressing challenges.

The event was chaired by Feni district Jamaat Ameer Mufti Abdul Hannan and moderated by district Secretary Maulana Abdur Rahim. Leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami, the AB Party, National Citizen Party (NCP), Khelafat Majlis and other alliance partners also addressed the seminar.
