A search committee has been constituted to recommend candidates for the appointment of the Chairman and Commissioners of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard on Monday.
According to the notification, Justice Md Rezaul Haque of the Appellate Division has been appointed as the chair of the committee. Other members include Justice Razik Al Jalil of the High Court Division, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) SM Rezvi, Bangladesh Public Service Commission Chairman Dr Mobasser Monem and Cabinet Secretary Dr Nasimul Gani.
The notification stated that the committee has been formed under Section 7 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, to recommend eligible candidates for appointment as ACC Commissioners. It will propose a panel of six names"two for each of the three vacant posts"to the President.
The President will subsequently appoint the Commissioners and Chairman from the recommended panel. The Cabinet Division will provide secretarial support, and the order has come into immediate effect.
The formation of the committee follows the resignation of the ACC Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen and Commissioners Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brigadier General (retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid, who stepped down simultaneously on 3 March. Since their resignation, ACC activities have reportedly been largely stalled.
