A Dhaka court on Sunday again deferred the hearing on framing charges in a case against Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, niece of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and former Rajuk assistant legal adviser Sardar Mosharraf Hossain for allegedly acquiring a flat illegally from a private developer in the capital’s Gulshan-2 area.

Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 fixed September 1 for the hearing after the defence sought additional time.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam said the court granted the defence’s plea for adjournment filed on behalf of Mosharraf Hossain, who is currently on bail.

The court had earlier taken cognisance of the ACC charge-sheet on February 18 and issued arrest warrants against the accused after they failed to appear.

The ACC filed the case on April 15 last year, alleging that Tulip Siddiq and others abused their authority to obtain and register a Gulshan-2 apartment from Eastern Housing Limited without making any payment.

Following the investigation, the ACC submitted a charge-sheet on December 11, accusing Tulip Siddiq and Mosharraf Hossain under several sections of the Penal Code, including forgery and criminal conspiracy, as well as the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
