Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan has said the government has completed its first 180-day 'honeymoon period' and has identified various problems in the education sector.
He said while speaking at the QS Bangladesh Forum 2026 on Monday.
''Why does QS rating focus only on universities in developed countries? Why not among SAARC countries? If it did, we would also be ahead.''
The education minister also questioned why private universities in Bangladesh had failed to introduce PhD programmes.
''Why have you not been able to introduce PhD degrees at private universities all these years? Have you kept your mouths shut for the last 20 years?''
Milan said Bangladesh’s universities have many researchers whose expertise contributes to the development of other countries, while the country itself fails to identify and utilise them.
