At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy in Pukhria Bus Stand on the Faridpur-Dhaka-Barishal highway in Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur on Sunday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhanga Police Station Mizanur Rahman said that an altercation broke out between the residents of Mouji Mahsardi Village under Hamirdi Union in Bhanga Upazila and inhabitants of five villages, including Pukhria and Brahmankanda under Manikdi Union, over establishing supremacy in Pukhria Bus Stand.

At one stage, both groups, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other, triggering the clash, which leaves at least 50 people injured.

Vehicular movement on the Faridpur-Dhaka-Barishal highway remained suspended for some time following the clash.

On information, police rushed to the scene and fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.

However, the situation is now under control and necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added.
