A court on Sunday placed a medical student on a one-day remand in a case filed for “instigating” HSC student Nuzhat Jahan to commit suicide, who died after jumping from the rooftop of a restaurant in Rangpur City.
The accused is Shahriar Ahmed Sakin, a student of Rangpur Medical College.
Rangpur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dr Muhammad Rashed Hossain passed the order when police produced Sakin before his court with a three-day remand prayer in the case.
The court also rejected the bail petition filed by his lawyer.
Earlier, on June 22, Nuzhat Jahan, a Higher Secondary Examination (HSC) examinee, died after falling from the rooftop of the Northview Hotel in Rangpur City.
Her father Nazrul Islam filed a case with Kotwali Police Station against Sakin, a private teacher of the college girl, on charge of instigating his daughter to commit suicide.
Later on, police arrested the medical student.
Advocate Abu Haider Md Abdul Mubin, a lawyer of the plaintiff, said Sakin and Nuzhat had a mobile conversation for 50 minutes 12 seconds at around 3:30am on June 16.
Over the past three months, they spoke on their mobile phones 118 times and exchanged text messages, he said, adding that a teacher is not expected to have such lengthy late-night conversations with a female student.
