Eight people were killed and seven others injured in separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria and Feni districts, Baraigram Upazila of Natore District and Dhanbari Upazila of Tangail District in three days.
BRAHMANBARIA: Two workers were killed and five others injured when a brick-laden truck fell into a ditch beside the Tinlakhpir-Chargachh road in Mandarpur Jorapukurpar area in Badair Union of Kasba Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
The deceased were Masuk Mia, 18, son of late Arab Mia, and Arman Mia, 17, son of Farhad Mia of Baishwamora area in Sarail Upazila of the district.
According to police and local sources, the truck driver lost its control and the vehicle fell into the ditch, leaving two workers dead on the spot. Locals rescued the injured and sent them to the Brahmanbaria District Sadar Hospital. The bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Kasba Police Station (PS) Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdur Rahim confirmed the incident.
BARAIGRAM, NATORE: A motorcyclist was crushed under the wheels of a bus coming from the opposite direction on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway at Royna Bharat Haat in Baraigram Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased Enamul Haque, 34, was the son of Sheikh Sadi of Sadar area in Munshiganj District. He was reportedly working for Sundarban Courier Service.
Eyewitnesses said that Enamul, along with some of his friends, were returning Dhaka from Chapainawabganj on their motorcycles on Sunday afternoon. On the way, a truck hit him from behind in the said area. As a result, he lost control of the motorcycle and fell onto the highway. At that time, he was crushed by the wheels of a Shyamoli Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction and died on the spot.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banpara Highway PS Moniruzzaman said that the body of the deceased has been recovered. The process of filing a case in this connection is underway.
MADHUPUR, TANGAIL: A schoolgirl was killed after being hit by a pickup van on the Dhaka-Tangail-Joydebpur-Jamalpur highway in front of the old police station building of Dhanbari Municipality in the district on Sunday morning.
The deceased Sadia Bakal, 17, was the daughter of Md Sayeed Bakal of Nijbarni (Bakalbari) Village of the municipality and a class nine student of Dhanbari Shaheen School.
Dhanbari PS OC Nurus Salam Siddique said that a pickup truck overturned on the highway in the said area and the schoolgirl was crushed under it and died on the spot. The pickup truck driver fled the scene immediately after the incident. On information, the police recovered the body and handed it over to the family members. The truck was seized and brought to the PS.
FENI: Three people, including a mother and daughter, were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a pickup truck on the Feni-Parshuram regional highway in Fulgazi Kalabagan area of Fulgazi Upazila of the district on Saturday evening.
The deceased were Md Kawsar, 30, son of Abul Kalam of Uttar Daulatpur Village in Fulgazi Sadar Union, Wahida Akhter Juthi, 25, wife of Kazi Hayat of Pathanagar Union in Chhagalnaiya Upazila, and her mother Zakia Akhter, 40. The injured couldn’t be identified till writing this report.
According to police and local sources, after the accident, locals rescued the injured and took them to the Fulgazi Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared two of them dead. The three injured were sent to the Feni 250-bed General Hospital for advanced treatment where one died.
Fulgazi Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Golam Kibria confirmed the deaths.
Fulgazi PS OC SM Mizanur Rahman said the two vehicles were kept in the custody of the PS.
