National Citizen Party (NCP) leader and reserved-seat Member of Parliament Dr Mahmuda Mitu says entering politics has come at a heavy personal and emotional cost, leaving her unable to enjoy life since becoming an MP.
In a post on her verified Facebook account on Sunday, the physician-turned-lawmaker reflected on how public office had transformed her career, identity and personal life.
"I have not been able to enjoy this life even for a day after becoming an MP," she wrote. "I no longer open my favourite gynaecology book. That is not the reason. The real reason is that I have lost myself somewhere while walking this path."
Dr Mitu said she had once led "a beautiful, happy life" before the political upheavals of 2024 changed its course.
