Mustafa Monwar laid to rest

Mustafa Monwar, one of the pioneers of Bangladesh’s painting, television and puppet movement, was laid to rest at Banani graveyard after receiving state honours and final tributes from people of all walks of life.

Before the burial, thousands of admirers, state representatives, artists and cultural personalities gathered to pay their last respects at the Central Shaheed Minar, the Central Mosque of Dhaka University, the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Channel i premises.

His body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar at 11:00 am, where an emotional atmosphere prevailed. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud and former adviser to the interim government Sharmin Murshid were the first to place wreaths.

Later, floral tributes were offered by a large number of cultural, social and professional organisations.
