Veteran Bangladeshi singer Syed Abdul Hadi, one of the country's most celebrated musical icons, is celebrating his 86th birthday on Wednesday (July 1).

Born on July 1, 1940, in Kasba, Brahmanbaria, the legendary artiste continues to receive heartfelt wishes from fans, fellow musicians and admirers.

To mark the occasion, Channel i has arranged a day-long special lineup. Gan Ache Ekhane, featuring 12 of Hadi's timeless songs performed by Imran, Sabbir, Opu Anam and Atik, aired at 7:30AM.

A special edition of Taroka Kothon at 12:05PM featured Hadi alongside lyricist Rafiquzzaman and singers Mohammad Khurshid Alam and Abida Sultana. At 5:15PM, the channel is scheduled to air the documentary Golpo Ache Ekhane, directed by Shaikh Siraj, in which Hadi reflects on his childhood, musical journey, the evolution of Bangladeshi music and his hopes for future generations of artistes.

Inspired by his father's love for music, Hadi developed a passion for singing at an early age by listening to records on a gramophone. A University of Dhaka student, he made his full-fledged playback debut in the 1964 film Dakbabu and went on to become one of the defining voices of Bangladeshi cinema.

His evergreen hits include Achhen Amar Moktar, Achhen Amar Barrister, Surjodoye Tumi Surjasteo Tumi, Ekbar Jodi Keu Bhalobasto, Ei Prithibir Panthashalay, Emono To Prem Hoy, Karo Apon Hoite Parli Na Ontor, Keu Kono Din Amare To Kotha Dilo Na, Jeyo Na Sathi, Ami Tomari Prem Bhikhari, Chokh Bujile Duniya Andhar and Tel Gele Furaiya.

A five-time National Film Award winner for Best Playback Singer, Hadi received the Ekushey Padak in 2000 and was recently honoured by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy for his outstanding contribution to the country's music and culture.
