3 killed, 25 injured in road mishaps

Three people were killed and 25 injured in separate road accidents in Bhola and Noakhali districts, Singra Upazila of Natore District and Gopalganj District in two days.

BHOLA: A female madrasa student was killed after being hit by a Nasimon on the Chairman-Shashibhushan Road in Hazariganj Union of Char Fasson Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning. 

After the incident, her classmates protested with the body on their shoulders and demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of the killer driver.

The deceased Lia Begum, 15, was the daughter of Shafiqul Islam of Ward No. 4 of the union and a class 10 student of Chairman Bazar Islamia Alim Madrasa.

According to local sources, a reckless Nasimon (engine-powered three-wheeler) hit Lia on her way to the Madrasa in the morning and she died on the spot. After the accident, the driver fled, leaving the Nasimon behind.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shashibhushan Police Station (PS) Firoz Ahmed said that the Nasimon has been seized.

NOAKHALI: A mosque Khatib has died after falling from his motorcycle in the Tota Mia Bazar area of Charbata Union in Subarnachar Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased Hafez Mufti Maqsud Alam, 36, was the son of Nurul Alam Mantri Sawdagar of Janata Bazar area of Ward No. 1 of Charclerk Union of the upazila and was serving as the Khatib of the upazila model mosque.

Locals said that it rained in the area on Tuesday night. Maqsud left his house on a motorcycle as usual to lead Fajr prayers. On his way, he fell off the motorcycle on the road and died on the spot. 

Char Jabbar PS OC Md Rafiqul Hasan confirmed the incident. An auto-rickshaw driver was killed and at least 25 others were injured in separate road accidents in two districts �" Natore and Gopalganj, on Tuesday.

SINGRA, NATORE: An auto-rickshaw driver was killed in a road accident in Singra Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The accident took place in Kakian area on the Jamtali-Ranirhat regional road under Sukash Union of the upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Sanjit, 36, son of Naren, a resident of Koidala area.

Local sources said that Sanjit was heading towards Jamtali Bazar from his house driving on the auto-rickshaw. On the way, a fish-laden truck hit his auto-rickshaw from behind, leaving him dead on the spot.

Singra PS OC Rafiqul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that filing of a case is underway in this connection.

GOPALGANJ: At least 25 passengers were injured as a bus fell into a roadside ditch after losing its control in the district on Tuesday.

The accident took place in Sonasur Bus Stand area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at noon. It was known that a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Sebagreen Line’ from Pirojpur overturned into a roadside ditch in Sonasur Bus Stand area after losing its control over steering, which left at least 25 passengers including women and children injured.

Being informed, police and Fire Service personnel rushed in and rescued the injured with the help of local people. 
Of the injured, 20 people were taken to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital and Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital.
