Tigers slip to 8th after shocking Test defeat to Zim

Bangladesh have slipped one place to eighth in the latest ICC Test rankings following their crushing innings and 85-run defeat to Zimbabwe in the one-off Test.

Najmul Hossian Shanto-led side had climbed to a career-best seventh position after completing a 2-0 away series sweep of Pakistan in May, ending a long stay at ninth and moving ahead of both Pakistan and the West Indies in the rankings.

However, the gains proved short-lived as the defeat to Zimbabwe saw Bangladesh lose five rating points, dropping from 78 to 73. Pakistan reclaimed seventh place with 75 rating points.

Bangladesh entered the one-off Test as favourites but endured a disappointing performance in both innings. They were dismissed for just 140 on the opening day before Zimbabwe piled up 410 in reply to seize complete control of the match.

The visitors didn't fare well too in their second innings, with the batting unit again failing to produce meaningful resistance as Zimbabwe wrapped up victory by an innings and 85 runs.

The defeat marked Bangladesh's heaviest-ever loss to Zimbabwe in Test cricket and their first innings defeat against the African side in 25 years.

It was also Zimbabwe's only the second Test victory by innings margin over Bangladesh, with the previous win coming in 2001.    �"BSS
