Two killed in road mishaps in two districts

Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Bagerhat and Gopalganj districts on Thursday.

BAGERHAT: A teenager died in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a Mahindra car on the Bagerhat-Fakirhat old road in front of the Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Parishad on Thursday morning. 

The deceased Sheikh Tanjim Islam Raj, 16, was the son of Sultan Sheikh of Sundarghona area in the upazila. Sultan Sheikh is currently in Mecca to perform Hajj.

Eyewitnesses said that Tanjim Islam Raj was recklessly riding a motorcycle towards Fakirhat when a passenger-carrying Mahindra car coming from the opposite direction collided head-on, leaving him dead on the spot. The Mahindra driver quickly left the scene with his Mahindra.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station (PS) Md Salehin Arefin said on information, the police recovered the body and sent it to the Bagerhat District Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

GOPALGANJ: A young man was killed after being hit by a bus on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in the Majra area of Kashiani Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.

The deceased Alauddin Khan, 28, was the son of valiant freedom fighter Shaheed Khan of Bhattaidhopa Village in Sajail Union of the upazila.

Bhanga Highway PS OC Md Helal Uddin confirmed the accident and said that the young man was crossing the road in the said area. At that time, a speeding tourist bus hit him and he died on the spot. The driver and helper fled the incident, but the police have seized the bus.
