Disabled teenager drowns at Ghoraghat

GHORAGHAT, DINAJPUR, July 2: A speech-impaired teenager drowned in a ditch in Baratipur Village of Bulakipur UP No. 1 in Ghoraghat Upazila of the district on Thursday morning. 

The deceased Sajjad Hossain Maruf, 14, was the son of Mizanur Rahman, a grocery shopkeeper of the village. The deceased was a disability allowance beneficiary.

Family and local sources said that Maruf was fetching water from the ditch behind the house but slipped and fell into it. Later, the family members found him floating face down in the ditch. He was immediately taken to a local village doctor, who declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge of Ghoraghat Police Station Shahidul Islam said that since there was no complaint, permission has been granted to bury the body after completing the necessary legal procedures.
