BSBRA gets new leadership, PHP's Mohsin elected president

CHATTOGRAM, July 4: PHP Family Vice Chairman Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury has been elected as the new president of Bangladesh Shipbreakers and Recyclers Association (BSBRA).

BSBRA Election Management Board Chairman Aftab Uddin Chowdhury announced the results of the vote at the city's Radisson Blu on Saturday afternoon.

71 out of the organization's 84 voters exercised their right to vote in the election.
Mohammad Selim Uddin was elected senior vice president. In addition, Md. Nur Uddin and Gazi Mukarram Ali Chowdhury were elected vice presidents.

Md. Zahidul Haque, Md. Taslim Uddin, SM Nurunnabi, Md. Ferdous Wahid, Ubaida Asadi, Hossainul Arefin and AKM Saifullah Sayeed were elected as executive members.

PHP Family Chairman Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said the BSBRA election, held after a long gap, took place in a festive atmosphere. He said deserving candidates were elected through voting and expressed hope that the new leadership would strengthen industry coordination and help manage the sector more effectively.

Shipbreaking yard SN Corporation owner and Eastern Bank PLC Chairman Shawkat Ali Chowdhury said the new leadership would present the sector's proposals to the government and seek policy support for its development. He noted that many shipbreaking yards have already been upgraded to environmentally friendly green facilities, while others are undergoing modernization.

Newly elected President Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury said he would work with all stakeholders to develop the shipbreaking industry and unlock its vast potential. He called for government policy support and said the association would place its key demands before the government.
