DSE indices surge in FY26 as daily average turnover reaches Tk 7,225m

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) registered a strong recovery during the 2025ïŋ―"26 fiscal year (FY26), with all major indices posting double-digit gains and trading activity increasing substantially, reflecting improved investor confidence and market liquidity.
The benchmark DSEX Index closed the fiscal year at 5,762.83 points, registering a 19.11 percent increase from its opening level of 4,838.39 points, according to BSS report. 
The performance marked a significant turnaround from the previous fiscal year, when the index had declined by 9.20 percent. 
The DS30 Index, which tracks leading blue-chip companies, also recorded robust growth, rising 19.96 percent to close at 2,178.38 points.
Meanwhile, the Shariah-based DSES Index advanced 10.12 percent to finish the year at 1,168.13 points.
The total market capitalization of all listed securities stood at Tk 6,986,923.05 million, equivalent to approximately US$56.87 billion, at the end of the fiscal year. 
Although total market capitalization increased from Tk 6,622,710.76 million in the previous year, the market capitalization-to-GDP ratio declined slightly to 11.42 percent from 11.93 percent.
Equities accounted for 51.32 percent of the total market capitalization, while Government Treasury Bonds represented 47.69 percent, with corporate bonds and mutual funds making up the remaining share.
Trading activity also witnessed remarkable growth during the year. Total turnover reached Tk 1,726,894.20 million, representing a 55.53 percent increase compared with the previous fiscal year.
The daily average turnover rose to Tk 7,225.50 million from Tk 4,724.92 million in FY2024ïŋ―"25. Total trading volume increased by 45.80 percent to 59,331.48 million shares.
The block market generated a turnover of Tk 71,293.64 million, accounting for 4.13 percent of the total market turnover. 
Trading through mobile applications remained active, with mobile transactions amounting to Tk 287,935.36 million during the fiscal year.
Foreign investors' total turnover also increased to Tk 49,430.92 million from Tk 39,414.10 million recorded in the previous fiscal year.
The SME Market recorded a total turnover of Tk 18,092.67 million over 239 trading sessions, with an average daily turnover of Tk 75.70 million.
The Alternative Trading Board (ATB), which commenced operations in early 2023, registered a turnover of Tk 71.13 million during the year.
Despite the strong gains in the market indices, valuation levels remained largely stable. The year-end price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio stood at 9.26, compared with 9.34 in the previous fiscal year, indicating relatively consistent market valuations.
