The government has placed 33 senior officers of the Bangladesh Police on compulsory retirement in the public interest.
The decision was announced in a notification issued on Sunday by the Police-1 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The gazette was signed by Senior Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury by order of the President.
According to the notification, the officers, all members of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) cadre, have been retired under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018 (Act No. 57 of 2018), which empowers the government to retire public servants in the public interest.
The officers include Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) Mollah Nazrul Islam, currently under arrest; Md Saiful Islam, currently under arrest; Miraj Uddin Ahmed; Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman; S.M. Mostak Ahmed Khan; Jihadul Kabir; Moinul Haque; Md Ilias Sharif; Shyamal Kumar Nath; Md Zakir Hossain Khan; Md Shah Abid Hossain; Md Jamil Hasan; Md Mahbubur Rahman; and Md Moniruzzaman.
The notification also includes Additional DIGs Md Barkatullah Khan; T.M. Mojahidul Islam; Md Anwar Hossain Khan; Moha. Moniruzzaman; Md Mehedul Karim; Md Alamgir Kabir; Md Rashidul Hasan; Sanjay Kumar Kundu; Md Nizamul Haque Mollah; S.M. Emran Hossain; Muhammad Saidur Rahman Khan; Dr Shamsunnahar; Saifullah Al Mamun; Khan Muhammad Rezwan; Md Sajid Hossain; Sheikh Rafiqul Islam; and Md Mashrukur Rahman Khaled.
In addition, Superintendent of Police (Supernumerary Additional DIG) Mollah Jahangir Hossain and Superintendent of Police Abdullah Aref have also been compulsorily retired.
The notification states that all the officers will be entitled to retirement benefits in accordance with existing rules.
It further says the order takes immediate effect in the public interest.
