Youth to die for rape, murder in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, July 6: Judge Farzana Akhter of the district's Special Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Monday afternoon sentenced a young man to death and fined Tk 1 lakh for raping and strangling his cousin named Asma Akhtar, 5, in Chatkhil Upazila of the district in 2022. 

The convicted Shahadat Hossain, 26, is the son of Babul Hossain of Megha Village in Badalkot Union of the upazila.

PP of the Women and Children Prevention Tribunal Selim Shahi confirmed the matter and said that the order also said that the convict should be hanged until death. 

According to the case details, Asma went missing from her house at around 1:30 pm on March 24, 2022. Nine days after the incident, the police recovered her body from the septic tank behind the house based on the information provided by the accused. Police arrested Shahadat in the incident.
 
The deceased’s father, Mawlana Shahjahan, filed a case with Chatkhil Sadar Police Station on April 6 accusing Shahadat. After taking testimony in a long trial, the judge declared the verdict.
