National Citizen Party (NCP) on Monday launched its 'July Padajatra 2026' as part of a 36-day programme marking the second anniversary of the July Uprising, demanding a referendum, employment generation and strengthened border security.

Yet, the party postponed the southern region's scheduled padajatra following the loss of lives in a landslide in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

The northern leg of the programme began from Kaliganj in Gazipur at 3pm. The march concluded in North Savar, Dhaka, at pm before party leaders and activists stayed overnight in the capital.

In a statement issued on Monday, NCP said the southern region's programmes, originally scheduled for July 7 in Cox's Bazar Sadar and Municipality, Bandarban Sadar, Anwara in Chattogram and Khagrachhari Sadar, had been postponed because of adverse weather and the Ukhiyaa landslide tragedy.
