The current session of Parliament will resume today(Tuesday) after a six-day recess. The sitting is scheduled to begin at 3pm pm under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed. The House was adjourned on June 30 following the passage of the national budget for the new financial year.
According to relevant sources, Parliament has already passed the national budget for the FY2026�"27 during the ongoing session.
Alongside the budget, the Finance Bill and several other important bills also received parliamentary approval. Following the presentation of the budget on June 11, lawmakers from both the ruling party and the opposition held extensive discussions on the budget and addressed a range of national issues, including economy, inflation, employment, elections, and law and order.
Sources at the Parliament Secretariat said that today's agenda includes a question-and-answer session for five ministries and institutions: the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, and the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat.
The House will also discuss two notices submitted under Rule 71 of the Rules of Procedure on matters of urgent public importance. One notice highlights the need to achieve 100 per cent export of leather and leather goods, ensure fair prices for raw hides, and enhance the competitiveness of Bangladesh's leather industry in international export markets. The other notice concerns the allocation of government-owned khas land to landless and poor people.
In addition, the day's business includes the presentation of the report of the Special Committee on the Bangladesh Metropolitan University (Second Amendment) Bill, 2026, followed by legislative proceedings on the bill.
Sources further said the process of forming the parliamentary standing committees may be completed during the current session. Several ministry-related standing committees have already been constituted, while preparations are underway to establish the remaining committees during this session.
According to the decision of the Business Advisory Committee, the current session is scheduled to continue until July 9. However, officials indicated the duration of the session may be extended.
