
RAJBARI, July 8: A three-day national fruit fair has started in the conference room of the Rajbari Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) on Tuesday at the initiative of the District Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
Deputy Director of the District DAE Dr Md Shahidul Islam chaired the inaugural ceremony while Deputy Commissioner (DC) Afroza Parveen was present as the chief guest. Sadar UNO Nirupama Roy, Upazila Land Officer Paira Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner Md Mizanur Rahman, BNP Joint Convener Gazi Ahsan Habib, Rajbari Red Crescent Society Vice-President Professor Manjurul Alam Dulal and Rajbari Press Club President Kazi Abdul Quddus Babu were the special guests.
In her speech, DC Afroza Parveen said that to ensure safe and nutritious food, the production, preservation and consumption of local fruits should be increased among consumers. Fruit farming plays an important role in increasing farmers' income, ensuring nutritional security and maintaining environmental balance.
In his speech, the Deputy Director said that families, educational institutions and all concerned should work together to instil the habit of eating local fruits among children. He also emphasised on developing effective systems for preserving fruits throughout the year. After the inauguration, the guests visited various stalls in the fair.
