CHAR FASSON, BHOLA, July 10: Due to the continuous heavy rains and adverse weather conditions, the height of the tidal water has increased abnormally in the villages adjacent to the rivers Meghna and Tetulia in Char Fasson Upazila of the district. As a result, several low-lying areas, including Aslampur, Madraz, Hazariganj, Jahanpur, Charmanika, Nilkamal, Banglabazar, Ghosherhat, Nazrul Nagar, Dhalchar, Kukri-Mukri, Charpatila and Char Nizam, have been flooded.
In this dire situation, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rumana Afroz distributed various relief materials, like rice, pulses, oil, salt, sugar, turmeric and chilli powder and other food items to the flood-hit families living on the embankment slopes of the upazila from Betua to Madraz and Hazariganj on Thursday afternoon and talked to them.
UNO Rumana Afroz said, “I had information that the affected family were mostly day-labourers, rickshaw and van pullers, who had been facing extreme hardship as they had no work due to the flood. On the other hand, the agricultural sector has also been affected as seasonal crops have been submerged in water.”
