State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M Iqbal Hossain on Saturday said the government was fully prepared to respond to natural disasters and was continuing rescue and relief operations in flood-hit areas.
Speaking to reporters after visiting affected areas in Khagrachhari municipality and Sadar upazila and distributing relief materials, he said the Bangladesh Army was working alongside the civil administration to rescue stranded people and deliver assistance.
"The government is making every effort to deal with the disaster. There is no shortage in rescue and relief operations, including for those who have been unable to reach shelter centres," he said.
The State Minister said the government was assessing the actual extent of damage and the suffering of people by visiting the five districts of greater Chattogram affected by the disaster.
He added that support for the affected people would continue.
Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Anwar Sadat, Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Shefalika Tripura, administrative officials and local BNP leaders, among others, were present.
