Persistent rain continued to batter Dhaka on Sunday, causing widespread disruption for commuters, students and office-goers as waterlogged roads, heavy traffic and overcrowded buses added to the capital's woes.

After 97mm of rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours, intermittent showers continued throughout the morning. Although the number of buses on the roads remained normal, an unusually high passenger volume forced many commuters to wait through several buses before boarding, while others travelled in packed vehicles.

Traffic moved slowly across key roads, including ECB Chattar, Pallabi, Agargaon and Shahbagh, leaving many people delayed on their way to work and educational institutions.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said rain is likely to continue in Dhaka and most parts of the country throughout the day, with moderate to very heavy rainfall expected in some areas.

According to the BMD, skies will remain mostly cloudy, with southerly to south-easterly winds blowing at 10"15 km/h. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

The department's divisional forecast also predicts rain or thundershowers across most areas of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Chattogram, Khulna and Barishal divisions, raising the likelihood of continued disruption.
