Heavy rain in the capital on Sunday caused widespread waterlogging inside the Bangladesh Secretariat, disrupting movement and causing hardship for officials, employees and visitors.
As rainfall intensified from Sunday morning, water accumulated across different parts of the Secretariat. The main entrance, internal roads, the areas in front of several buildings and the road leading to the media centre were submerged.
Waterlogging was reported around Building No. 6, the front and rear of Building No. 7, and the courtyards on the eastern and northern sides of the clinic building. The road between Buildings No. 3 and 4 also went under water, disrupting movement, while the garden inside the Building No. 3 premises was inundated.
Media personnel also faced difficulties reaching the media centre due to the waterlogging. Officials and employees were seen wading through water, many with their trousers rolled up and shoes in their hands.
The waterlogging made it difficult for officials and employees to move between buildings, forcing many to use alternative routes.
Intermittent rain has continued in the capital since Saturday night. Although there was a brief pause in the morning, heavy rainfall resumed later in the day and continued for several hours before stopping at around 2:00 pm.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, 97 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in Dhaka during the 24-hour period from 6:00 am on Saturday to 6:00 am on Sunday.
