A fire broke out at the store room of Savar Upazila Health Complex on Sunday, damaging government medicines and important documents stored there.
The fire started around 2:30pm inside the store room, said office assistant Jewel Khan. After being informed, the fire service was contacted, but health complex employees managed to bring the blaze under control by 2:40pm.
Savar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Fazle Bari said the fire originated from an electrical short circuit. He said several items kept inside the room were damaged in the fire.
Senior Station Officer of Savar Fire Service Jahangir Alam said two fire service units visited the spot after receiving the information. However, the fire had already been brought under control by health complex staff before their arrival.
He added that the initial assessment suggested the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, while the extent of the damage could not be determined immediately.
