Make the country greener, PM urges students

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for collective efforts to build a greener Bangladesh. 

He made the call on Wednesday morning (July 15) while inaugurating a nationwide tree plantation campaign. The event took place at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Agargaon, the capital. 

The inauguration preceded the Primary Education Medal-2026 distribution ceremony.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education organized the event. The Prime Minister launched the drive by planting a Neem sapling. As part of this initiative, around 200,000 saplings are being planted simultaneously across all government primary schools nationwide today.

Addressing the children, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged everyone to plant at least one tree every year. He suggested planting them at school, around the home, or any suitable location.

He also encouraged students to research their plants online. ‘Find out its lifespan, how much oxygen it produces, and its benefits. This way, you will learn about a new tree every year,’ he added.

The Prime Minister highlighted the environmental benefits of trees. ‘When these school trees grow, they will offer shade. You can rest under them when tired of playing. If planted at home, they will bring a cool breeze and lower the temperature,’ he said.

Prime Minister praised the collective effort to plant so many trees at once. Following the inauguration, he visited various nature and environment projects created by young students.

Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, and Education Advisor Mahdi Amin were present. The Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon and other senior officials also attended the event.
