The annual Rath Jatra, one of the most revered festivals in Hinduism, begins across Bangladesh today (Thursday), bringing thousands of devotees together for colourful chariot processions, special prayers and cultural programmes.
Marking the ceremonial journey of Lord Jagannath along with his siblings, the festival will be observed in accordance with centuries-old religious traditions, while authorities have put comprehensive security measures in place to ensure peaceful celebrations.
Observed annually on the second day of the Shukla Paksha of the Bengali month of Asharh, the festival will be celebrated in various parts of the country, including the capital, in accordance with long-standing religious traditions.
In Dhaka, the principal programme will commence at the Swamibag Ashram at 8am with an Agnihotra Yajna praying for world peace and prosperity.
The ceremonial chariot procession is scheduled to leave the temple premises at 3pm and is expected to reach the Dhakeshwari National Temple at around 7pm.
Organisers have arranged a nine-day programme featuring Harinam Sankirtan, Agnihotra Yajna for world peace and prosperity, Mahaprasad distribution, discussion meetings, Padabali Kirtan, Aarti Kirtan, Bhagavad Katha, recitation from Srimad Bhagavad Gita, cultural performances, religious film screenings and devotional dramas.
