Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday said the government's economic reform agenda would be implemented in phases, taking into account the priorities and requirements of the elected government.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with a visiting delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the Finance Ministry, the minister said discussions had already taken place on the foundation of a new programme with the IMF.
"The programme will be based on the policy issues that have already been identified and discussed," he said.
The finance minister stressed that the reform process would be carried out while respecting the mandate of the elected government.
"We will move forward with the reforms while respecting the elected government. The necessary changes will be introduced in a sequenced manner according to priorities and needs," he said.
Amir Khasru said many reforms had already been implemented, while the remaining measures would be introduced gradually as circumstances and national priorities require.
"Whatever is needed will be done at the appropriate time. A number of changes have already taken place, and the rest will be implemented step by step based on time and necessity," he added.
