Saudi Arabia is set to strengthen its partnership with Bangladesh by offering 500 scholarships per year to Bangladeshi students while Prime Minister’s (PM) Adviser and Spokesperson Mahdi Amin highlighted the inclusive nature of 2024 mass uprising, saying people from all strata of the society contributed to the movement for democracy, equality and social justice.
During a courtesy meeting between Mahdi Amin and Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Abdullah Jafar H. Bin Abiah at the Prime Minister's Office, the announcement came.
Their separate engagements in Dhaka discussions focused on expanding cooperation in education, labour migration, Hajj and Umrah services, and broader bilateral ties between the two countries.
Saudi ambassador expressed his country's interest in working closely with Bangladesh's new government in political, economic and other sectors. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in education, including Saudi Arabia's support for improving Bangladesh's education system.
The envoy said the annual scholarship programme for Bangladeshi students has already been conveyed to the PM.
The meeting also discussed expanding opportunities for exporting skilled Bangladeshi workers to Saudi Arabia, simplifying access to the Saudi labour market.
Two sides also noted nearly 3.8 million Bangladeshis currently living in Saudi Arabia are making significant contributions to the Kingdom's economy while their remittances continue to play an important role in Bangladesh's economic development. Both governments stressed the importance of further strengthening this partnership.
Saudi delegation included Vice Ambassador Khalid Saeed M. Al Hadal and Deputy Head of the Consular Section Mohammed Fahad D. Al Suhaimi.
