BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday accused opposition parties of misleading people over the July Charter, reaffirming his party’s commitment to implementing the reform pledges outlined in the agreement.
Speaking as the chief guest at a memorial meeting marking the sixth death anniversary of Professor Emajuddin Ahmed, held at the Jahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club, Fakhrul made the remarks. The meeting was jointly organised by the Professor Emajuddin Ahmed Research Centre and the National Journalists Association.
Fakhrul said the opposition’s claim that failure to implement the charter in parliament would be “settled on the streets” was intended to confuse the public.
He said all parties that had jointly protested against the previous government had signed the July Charter, and BNP had repeatedly announced that it would implement the charter’s commitments according to its election manifesto if voted to power.
