Expatriate workers of Bangladesh sent nearly 1.80 billion US dollars in remittance to the country in the first 18 days of July, which marks the first 18 days of the current 2026-27 fiscal year. Remittance inflow grew by 20.2 per cent compared to the same period of previous year.
Latest data from Bangladesh Bank showed that the country received a total of 1.798 billion US dollar in remittance from July one to July 18. The same period in previous fiscal year showed the amount at 1.496 billion dollars. Consequently, the remittance inflow surged by 302 million dollars within a year.
Central bank data confirmed, expatriates sent 161 million dollars in just three days, from July 16 to July 18. Earlier, 567 million dollars arrived during the first five days of the month. For this reason, total remittance reached nearly 1.80 billion dollars in 18 days due to a consistent inflow of cash.
Concerned officials said that the remittance trend remains positive due to an increasing tendency to send money through banking channels. Government initiatives and incentives to promote legal channels also contributed to this growth.
According to economists, the rise in remittance inflow plays a vital role in strengthening the foreign exchange reserves of the country. It also helps in settling import bills and maintaining the balance of payments.
