English-medium schools must follow national curriculum: Bobby Hajjaj

English-medium schools must follow the state’s basic curriculum, said Primary and Mass Education State Minister Bobby Hajjaj on Saturday, alleging that many such schools at the primary level are not complying with the national curriculum.
He made the remarks at a School Leaders Conference organised by Oxford IQ at a hotel in the capital.
Hajjaj said the government has yet to determine how much instructional time primary-level students should spend at school, despite years of discussion on the issue.
''Improving the quality of education requires a strong focus on curriculum implementation and teacher training.''
The state minister also stressed the need for proper training for teachers, comparing the situation with other professions.
''Even a household driver receives training, but in many cases teachers are being assigned classroom responsibilities without any training. This situation cannot continue.''
