700 students get tree saplings at Sundarganj

 
GAIBANDHA, July 21: As many as 700 students of Belka Monica Girls’ High School under Sundarganj Upazila of the district got saplings of different trees to plant those on the house yard, open spaces and surroundings of the houses to keep the environment well-protected and address the negative impacts caused by the climate change. 

In this connection, a sapling distribution was also held on the School premises on Monday afternoon with head teacher of the school Abdul Mannan Akend in the chair, at the initiative of SKS Foundation, a non-government development organisation working across the country under school Led Community Resilience to Disaster and Climate Risk funded by Muslim Aid, UK, Bangladesh Field Office.   

In the function, Project Manager Afroja Bulbul Eti described the objectives of the project elaborately and urged the students to plant at least one tree every year. She also urged the students to take care the planted saplings like their own brothers and sisters. 

Abdul Mannan Akend, head teacher of the school, in his speeches said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman adopted a target to plant 25 crore saplings across the country within five years. The tree plantation activity by the students of the school would help the government fulfil the target, he expected. Later, the saplings of different trees were distributed to the students of the school.
