Gas supply to normalize in 2 days: Energy division

A mechanical glitch in the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) has caused a temporary disruption in country’s national gas supply. This caused immense suffering for the LNG power vehicles.

Monir Hossain Chowdhury, Joint Secretary (Operations Division) of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division shared the update during an emergency press briefing on Wednesday, July 22. 

The brief stated, Natural gas supply has been disrupted due to a mechanical breakdown at one floating LNG terminals. Repair is underway, and we expect to resolve the issue within two days.

This supply disruption has led to long queues of vehicles in front of CNG filling stations across the country. Officials assured that the shortage is temporary and conditions will improve rapidly once the repair finishes. 

He also provided context regarding the national supply gap, noting that daily demand for natural gas in Bangladesh stands at approximately 3,800 million cubic feet. In contrast, current daily production and imports yield between 2,700 and 2,800 million cubic feet, creating a persistent deficit between demand and supply over an extended period.
