FIFA unveils FIFA World Cup 2026 team of the tournament: Spain lead with three players

‎FIFA has officially announced the Team of the Tournament for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with newly crowned champions Spain dominating the Best XI by placing three players in the lineup. Runners-up Argentina and semi-finalists France each secured multiple selections, while England, Norway, and surprise package Cape Verde also earned representation.
‎World champions Spain have the highest representation in the Team of the Tournament, with three players making the cut. Defenders Marc Cucurella and Pedro Porro are joined by midfield maestro Rodri, who played a pivotal role in Spain’s title-winning campaign. Rodri was also named the tournament’s best player after winning the Golden Ball award.
‎Runners-up Argentina are represented by two players. Captain Lionel Messi earned a place in the forward line after producing another remarkable World Cup campaign, finishing with eight goals and eight assists. Defender Lisandro Martínez also secured a spot following his consistent performances at the heart of Argentina’s defence.
‎France, who reached the semi-finals, also have three players in the Best XI. Kylian Mbappé leads the attack after scoring a tournament-high 10 goals, setting a new World Cup scoring record. Michael Olise, who provided seven assists throughout the tournament, was selected in midfield, while Dayot Upamecano earned recognition in defence.
‎England’s Jude Bellingham was included in midfield following a series of outstanding performances. The young star also made history by scoring seven goals in a single World Cup despite playing as a midfielder.
‎Norway’s Erling Haaland was chosen as the central striker after enjoying a prolific tournament, emerging as one of the standout performers with his consistent goal-scoring exploits.
‎In goal, Cape Verde’s veteran goalkeeper Vozinha completed the lineup. The 40-year-old, playing in his nation’s first-ever World Cup, produced a string of exceptional saves against Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Argentina, playing a crucial role in Cape Verde’s historic run and becoming one of the tournament’s inspirational stories.
